Amsterdam Guide: Where to Eat and What to Do
Plus, an emperor's mansion in exile and epic architecture.
This week’s edition of Getting Around is one of the occasional destination guides. They’re behind a paywall, as getting to see a place my way is one element for which I’m comfortable charging people. For past destination guides check out: Paris, Montreal, Newport, Rio de Janeiro, Tucson, Antwerp, and Menorca (which is free if you want a taste). You can always just sign up for monthly to access the ones you want and then cancel. :)
Few cities are best-enjoyed sans checklist as much as Amsterdam. If the weather cooperates, of course. While I found the city achingly beautiful when I first visited more than a decade ago, I didn’t fall for it as hard as I have in recent years. The difference? Biking. The difference between a visit here with access to a bicycle as opposed to exploring without one is chasm-like. Suddenly, a whole lot more is available and can be accessed at your leisure. The guide as follows is by no means exhaustive, but rather reflects the things I have enjoyed the most as well as a couple I think you can skip.
